River Bend Neighborhood Tour Being Held September 8 & 9

River Bend Home Tour

The 11th annual River Bend Neighborhood Home Tour is being held Saturday and Sunday, September 8th and 9th, 2007.

Tickets will be available for purchase at Moulton Elementary School, at 8th & College. The cost is $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for children 17 and under. Transportation will be provided from home to home.

In addition to the tour, there will be workshops on knitting, quilting, calligraphy and more. An architectural historian will be on hand to give insight about the historic nature of the homes in the neighborhood.

There will also be a raffle at the end of each day of the tour, with prizes from Sahar’s Salon, Something Good Restaurant and Mary Kay.

Regatta Scheduled To Sail Through River Bend Neighborhood

Des Moines Rowing Club - womens' fourRower Jill Emmert informs us that the 24th Annual Head of the Des Moines Regatta, one of the oldest rowing competitions in the Midwest, is coming up September 29.

Hosted by the Des Moines Rowing Club, more than 600 competitors will compete in 60 races along the Des Moines River. The three-mile course runs from the Botanical Center up to Prospect Park.

Club, high school and university-level teams from all around the Midwest will race in eight-person shells (special rowing boats), four-person shells, doubles, pairs and singles.

Watch the fast finishes from the shore of Prospect Park or cheer the rowers along the bike trail near Birdland Marina.

Races run from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
