River Bend Featured In Des Moines Register
Tuesday, November 14th, 2006River Bend Neighborhood Association President Carolyn Jenison was featured in a recent article in the Des Moines register, along with other board members and residents:
River Bend residents are in love.
They are proud of a historic neighborhood dotted with architecturally diverse homes and energized about the rebirth going on in the area. Some liken the neighborhood to nearby Sherman Hill, which underwent its own transformation that resulted in refurbished homes, improved services and an influx of residents.
River Bend Neighborhood Association chairwoman Carolyn Jenison, who has lived in the area for seven years, sought a home in the Sherman Hill area until a real estate agent said to her, “You have to see the houses in River Bend – it is the next Sherman Hill,” Jenison said.
“I saw the house and fell in love,” she said. “Then I fell in love with the incredible and unique architecture in the neighborhood, the close proximity to downtown, the great mix of commercial and residential opportunities, the ethnic diversity of the neighborhood and, to be honest, the camaraderie and neighborly atmosphere.”
“Our neighborhood is different from others because it’s the first suburb of Des Moines, follows the bend of the river, contains many historic homes and is a family-oriented, close-knit community,” Jenison said. “We also are the most ethnically balanced neighborhood in the city. We have nationally recognized historic districts, businesses, restaurants, homes, schools, churches and parks. We are a community within a community.”
